Course Description:

CTC’s Green Career Academy will prepare participants for careers in Green Jobs--jobs that reduce waste and pollution and benefit the environment. This curriculum includes basic construction foundation core curriculum with a ten hour, national certification from OSHA. Core curriculum includes tool identification and usage, small power tools identification and usage, construction math including blue print reading and schematics, and sexual harassment.

The green careers portion consists of energy efficiency/audits which are concepts behind the calculation of the measure of energy savings and payback in buildings, infiltration theory, approved retrofit list and codes. The participant will learn home energy auditing techniques and apply them in lab exercises. Those techniques will include blower door guided air leakage test, heat systems testing, material estimating, measuring, and working with a field data collection form. With additional testing, the student will be able to earn national certification from Residential Energy Services Network's (RESNET®) National Raters Test. The weatherization portion includes theory, methods and techniques for the installation of weatherization materials and will focus on demonstration and hands-on application of weather stripping, insulation, ventilation, glazing, caulking, measuring, safety measures, ductwork solutions, air sealing measure, accessing attics, etc. With additional testing, the student will be able to test for national certification from Building Performance Institute (BPI). Solar Photovoltaic is an introduction to solar p.v. power systems and their installation. With additional testing, student will be able to earn the North American Board of Energy Practitioner’s (NABCEP) Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge. These include job opportunities in sustainable energy sources like wind and solar, energy audits, dwelling weatherization, green building, hazardous waste removal, recycling and consumer goods, construction, and manufacturing.

Prerequisites:  Must have a valid driver's license, high school graduate or GED, right to work in the United States, physically fit, and must consent to drug testing.


Schedule:
Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for 13 weeks.
